"IMU-Based Human Kinematics Estimation and Application to EVA Operations"

Timothy McGrath
HSL PhD Candidate

Abstract: “Current state-of-the-art human kinematic measurement typically involves a lab-based optical motion capture system, which can be cumbersome and expensive to use for general experiments. Inertial measurement units (IMUs) offer a small, low-cost, wearable alternative which can be deployed in an operational environment to measure human motion, but can be limited by low accuracy and tedious calibrations. This seminar explores methods to estimate human kinematics from IMUs without the need for cumbersome calibration procedures.  Applications to EVA operations are also explored.”
